Account and billing

Buying and managing a plan

Checkout, monthly or yearly, upgrading, cancelling, and getting your invoices.

Everything to do with buying, changing and ending a plan happens on Billing & usage, reachable from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar. The pricing page has the same buttons if you are signed in.

Buying a plan

  1. 1

    Open Billing

From the account menu, the Upgrade button at the top of the workspace, or the pricing page. All of them land on the same list of plans with your current one marked.

  2. 2

    Choose monthly or yearly

The toggle above the plan cards switches the whole page between the two terms, so you are comparing like with like before you pick.

  3. 3

Press the button on the plan you want

You are taken to the secure checkout used in your region. We never see or store your card details.

  4. 4

    Pay, and come back

The billing page says it is confirming rather than saying it is done. Activation is confirmed with the payment provider rather than assumed from the redirect, so it can take a few seconds. Refresh if the page still shows your old plan.

Note

A plan shown as Unavailable is not offered for purchase on this site. That is a configuration matter rather than something about your account; get in touch rather than retrying.

How you pay

Prices are quoted and charged in US dollars, through Stripe. Cards are handled entirely by Stripe; the details never reach us.

A plan bought this way renews itself at the end of each term until you cancel, and Stripe emails a receipt each time it does.

Credit balances are always shown in US dollars, because that is the unit credit is measured in. The only thing that differs by region is the currency the payment is taken in.

Upgrading

Pick the higher plan and check out as normal. Credit remaining on the plan you are leaving is carried onto the new one instead of being discarded, and the monthly cycle restarts from the day of the upgrade.

Buying the plan you are already on is refused where the plan renews itself, because you would be paying twice for a period you already hold. Where plans run as fixed terms, buying the same one again is how you extend it.

Cancelling

Cancel plan sits under your plan on the billing page. It asks you to confirm, and the confirmation names the exact date access ends, because that is the part people expect to be different:

  • Cancelling ends the renewal, not the plan. You keep the plan, its rate and whatever plan credit is left for the rest of the term you paid for.
  • On that date the account returns to Free. Usage credits you bought are unaffected and stay in your account.
  • Until the date arrives you can change your mind; the button becomes Renew subscription.

Note

A plan bought as a fixed term has nothing to cancel, because nothing renews it. In that case the billing page shows the end date and no cancel button rather than offering an action that would do nothing.

When a payment fails

A recurring plan whose payment is declined is marked past due on the billing page. The plan is not cancelled straight away; the payment provider retries. Updating the card is the fix, and the monthly credit arrives once a retry succeeds.

Manage subscription opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can change the card, see upcoming charges, and download every invoice and receipt.

Invoices and receipts

Payment records live with Stripe. Manage subscription opens the portal, where every invoice and receipt can be downloaded as a PDF.

Your own account activity, including every charge against credit, is on Billing and usage.

Refunds

If something went wrong with a purchase, tell us what happened and we will sort it out. Open a support ticket under the billing category with the date and the amount; the entry on your activity table is enough for us to find it.
